A moderate to good fitness level is required. Expect to walk 10–15 km per day across uneven terrain, carrying a light backpack with daily essentials. The pace is steady and guided, suitable for most active travellers who enjoy hiking and outdoor living.
Yes. Safety is always the top priority. Every group is led by a qualified Trails Officer and an armed Field Ranger trained in animal behaviour and bush safety. Encounters with large game such as elephant, rhino, or buffalo are handled calmly and professionally at safe viewing distances.
The Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is one of Africa’s oldest and most celebrated conservation areas, teeming with a remarkable diversity of wildlife. You’ll walk through true Big Five territory, with the chance to encounter elephants, rhinos, buffalo, lions, and leopards in their natural environment.
Beyond the Big Five, the park is alive with giraffe, zebra, nyala, kudu, impala, warthog, and wildebeest, as well as smaller species like mongoose and bushbuck. The area is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 350 recorded species, including the African fish eagle, hornbills, sunbirds, and the striking lilac-breasted roller.
Because this is a walking safari, every sighting happens on nature’s terms, quiet, close, and personal. It’s not just about spotting animals, but about understanding the ecosystem: reading tracks, recognising calls, and observing behaviour with guidance from expert rangers who share their deep knowledge of the bush.
